Acoustic Emission during Stress Corrosion Cracking Test

چکیده
AE monitoring from various types of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) has been conducted for the past 15 years in our laboratory. This paper discusses AE results of active-path dissolution-type SCC of austenitic stainless steel in chloride solution and fused salt, fluoride and polythionic acid solutions, brass in ammonia (Mattosson's solution), and carbon steels in nitrite solution. Transgranular-type SCC of 304 steel in concentrated chloride solution did not produce AEs, but intergranular SCC of sensitized 304 steel in chloride, polythionic acid and fluoride solutions did produce AEs. Intergranular SCC of brass in Mattosson's solution and carbon steel in nitirate solution did not.

Initiation of Stress Corrosion Cracking in Unidirectional Glass/Polymer Composite Materials
The purpose of this research is to determine the resistance to the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of three unidirectional (pultruded) E-glass/polymer composites based on modified polyester, epoxy and vinyl ester resins. The composites have been subjected to a nitric acid solution of pH 1.2 in a newly designed four-point bend fixture. The stress corrosion process was initiated on the as supplie...
متن کاملAn Investigation of Brittle Fracture of Composite Insulator Rods in an Acid Environment with Either Static or Cyclic Loading
The effect of static and cyclic loading conditions on the stress corrosion cracking of unidirectional glass reinforced polymer (GRP) rods used in composite high voltage insulator has been investigated. A series of stress corrosion experiments have been performed on unidirectional E-glass/modified polyester composite rods. The rods have been subjected to mechanical tensile static and cyclic stre...
متن کاملEvaluation of Stress Corrosion Properties of Pultruded Glass Fiber/Polymer Composite Materials
A series of stress corrosion experiments were performed on 12 pultruded glass fiber composite materials (two fibers in six different matrices) commonly used in high voltage composite insulators. In this study two types of glass fibers were investigated, namely Eglass and ECR-glass. The tests were performed in nitric acid solutions (pH 1.2) using constant K I specimens that were specifically des...
متن کاملInformation Theory Filters for Wavelet Packet Coefficient Selection with Application to Corrosion Type Identification from Acoustic Emission Signals
The damage caused by corrosion in chemical process installations can lead to unexpected plant shutdowns and the leakage of potentially toxic chemicals into the environment. When subjected to corrosion, structural changes in the material occur, leading to energy releases as acoustic waves. This acoustic activity can in turn be used for corrosion monitoring, and even for predicting the type of co...
متن کاملELECTROCHEMICAL NOISE ANALYSIS OF 70-30 BRASS DURING STRESS CORROSION CRACKING TEST IN MATTSON S SOLUTION
An investigation of the electrochemical noise generation during Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) of 70-30 Brass in Mattson's solution was conducted. The fluctuations of potential and current were monitored. The relationship between potential and current fluctuations has been evaluated in time domain and the obtained data has been analyzed in the frequency domain using Power Spectral Density (PSD...
